Our Social Studies lesson today was so interesting! I learnt that the Singapore Botanic Gardens is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's the first place in Singapore to (1) reseev such an honour, and it was (2) choose for its historical importance, natural beauty, and role in the rubber trade in the 1900s. It’s also one of the few (3) tropickle colonial gardens left in the world!
We found out that for a site to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the place must be so important that it is valued by people around the world. It must meet strict (4) kryteeria for example having cultural or natural (5) signify.
Singapore took five years to prepare its (6) apply. Experts praised the excellent (7) maytenence of the Gardens, especially compared to other gardens in Asia.
(8) Which struck me most was how something right here in Singapore is now registered around the world. As I walked along the shady paths, I (9) begin to reminisce about my past visits. I now see the Gardens in a whole new light. It makes me proud that something so (10) furmilia is now appreciated by people around the world.
One day, I hope to visit other UNESCO sites - like Angkor Wat or Borobudur.
